IMNU students win national math contest
The organizing committee of the 2019 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling -- the CUMCM -- recently announced the contest results and Inner Mongolia Normal University triumphed, according to its organizers.
Guided by teacher Fan Pengcheng, three students from IMNU won the first prize, including Pan Xinyue, Jia Mengshu and Cai Lutao.
It was the only first prize granted to universities in Inner Mongolia autonomous region at the 2019 contest.
The CUMCM, is an annual contest for undergraduates from all over the world.
Each team in the contest are formed by up to three students advised by at most one teacher. The task for all participating groups is to develop in three days mathematical or computer models to solve a simplified real-word problem in various fields such as engineering and management.
The contest aims to enhance young students' understanding of mathematics, especially mathematical modeling and mathematical software.
It also aims to stimulate students' interest in studying mathematics, as well as to cultivate their creativity and comprehensive abilities.
It has been held by China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics every year since 1992.
Last year, 42,128 teams and more than 120,000 students from 1,449 institutions participated in the contest.
