The 2019 Annual Meeting of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences was held in Kunming in Yunnan province on Nov 9-10 by the China Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences -- or CUAES -- and Yunnan Minzu University.
The theme of this year’s conference was "70 years of progress in anthropology and ethnology and national unity". More than 550 experts and academics from more than 150 universities and research institutes across the country attended the event.
Wang Laixi, vice president of Inner Mongolia Normal University, attended the meeting and reported on the latest research conducted by IMNU in ethnology studies.
The organizing committee of the event announced at the closing ceremony that IMNU will be the institute to host the 2020 annual meeting.
Wang delivered a speech, during which he invited experts and academics in the field to come and visit IMNU in 2020 and jointly promote the development of the discipline among universities in China.
Anthropology studies human beings from two perspectives – the biological and social cultural anthropology. The latter field is also referred to as ethnology.
Anthropology and ethnology were introduced to China about 100 years ago. From translating foreign works to independent research, the study has gradually established itself as a formal discipline in higher education institutes.
