IMNU launches online courses

2019-09-20

A number of courses taught by professors and instructors from Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) are currently available on Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), an online platform offering open access to interactive courses.

It took IMNU’s production team nearly one year to get the courses online.

The first series of lectures includes “Land Economy” by Prof Zhang Yufeng and “English Pronunciation” by Prof Guo Xiping. A series of courses will also be launched in the near future.

MOOC, which originated in the United States, has gained popularity in China since 2013, and a number of universities, including Tsinghua, Peking, and Shanghai Jiao Tong, have established their own MOOC platforms.

According to the State Ministry of Education, higher education institutes in China, especially those strong in information technology and other specific majors, are encouraged to establish MOOCs that focus on liberal education, public courses, and the core curricula of certain majors.

“MOOC has enlarged the teaching space, inspired learners, given more people access to high-quality educational resources, and accelerated the transformation of teaching,” said an official from the Ministry of Education.
