Oil painting exhibition opens in Inner Mongolia

2019-08-15

An invitational oil painting exhibition opened at the Inner Mongolia Art Museum in Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Aug 3 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Zhao Donghai, vice president of Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU), delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thank you to guests.

The exhibition, entitled " Dream of the Grassland", is expected to inspire oil painters in the region and promote artistic exchanges between Inner Mongolia and other regions in the country, according to Zhao.

The event was co-hosted by IMNU, the Federation of Literature and Art in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Inner Mongolia Art Museum, the Oil Painting Committee of the Inner Mongolia Artists Association, and the Inner Mongolia Oil Painting Association.

The exhibited works are expected to inject new vitality into oil painting in the region and propel the development of art in the region. The exhibition will run until August 21.

It has been reported that the exhibition has presented more than 100 oil painting works by 24 members of the 70 Oil Painting Commune.

The 70 Oil Painting Commune is a spontaneously formed academic oil painting group in China. It was established in December 2015 and has gathered 30 outstanding oil painters from 13 provinces and cities nationwide.

The commune promotes culture and pursues "truth, goodness, and beauty" in art. It advocates easel painting -- artworks painted on a portable support such as a panel or canvas, instead of on a wall. They support various art styles including concept realism, new realism, new expressionism, abstractionism, and abstraction.

After years of development, the commune has become an influential group in China.
