In order to enhance exchanges between Chinese and international students and promote traditional Chinese culture, Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) held a Chinese character dictation competition in Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on June 19.
A total of 35 international students from Russia, Mongolia, South Korea, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Laos, and Pakistan participated in the competition.
Students were divided into two groups based on their Chinese proficiency and were tested on vocabulary, idioms, and ancient poetry.
During the competition, participants would listen to pronunciations and explanations of Chinese characters and then write the characters within an allotted time. Their answers would then be assessed by judges.
