New students at Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region started their university days with a short period of military training on Sept 15.
Most Chinese university students undergo an initial period of military training during their first year, with IMNU students expected to train for two weeks.
According to CCTV, more than 2,000 colleges and 22,000 high schools have adopted the practice, with over 20 million students participating in training every year.
The practice commonly includes learning military theories and physical training. Officers and serving soldiers will assist the students throughout their training.
During their training, students have to follow the daily routine of a typical soldier, as well as learn basic combat skills.
